  • 12 cup all purpose flour
  • 12 cup granulated sugar
  • 14 tsp salt
  • 14 cup butter
  • 1 heaping Tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 12 Tbsp buttermilk
  • 14 cup hot water (out of the tap)
  • 14 tsp baking soda
  • 14 tsp vanilla
  • 2 Tbsp butter
  • 1 12 Tbsp milk (I use whipping cream but can also use buttermilk)
  • 1 Tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 14 tsp vanilla
  1. Mix together flour, sugar and salt in a small mixing bowl.
  2. In a small sauce pan combine butter, cocoa and water. Stir until butter melts and mixture comes to a boil.
  3. Pour mixture over dry ingredients and stir to combine.
  4. Add in egg yolk, buttermilk, baking soda and vanilla. Stir to combine.
  5. Pour mixture into a greased 9 x 7 inch baking pan.
  6. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean.
  7. As soon as cake comes out of oven mix up frosting.
  8. In a small sauce pan combine butter ,milk, cocoa powder, and powdered sugar.
  9. Stir until butter melts and ingredients are combined. Frosting will be thin. Do not allow it to boil.
  10. Add in vanilla.
  11. Pour hot frosting over hot cake out of the oven.
  12. Spread to cover cake.
